The SRA have been looking at the SRA Rules and have proposed reducing them from 50+ rules to 13. This heralds a whole new regime and a major change for the profession. We will have less prescriptive rules and instead will be allowed to deliver legal services in a manner to suit the types of clients we give legal advice to.

We will be expected to follow certain standards of behaviour but the details of how will be left to the Solicitor rather than a rule book. We are becoming no less self-regulated just that the approach of our regulator will be more on managing expected outcomes rather than dictating the method. It is therefore important to have both knowledge and understanding when applying the new rules to ensure compliance with the word and the essence of the Accounts and Conduct Rules. The new rules are to be published in April 2017 but will not be implemented until at the earliest April 2018.

This half day workshop is designed to look at the new rules and approach that is expected of Solicitor Firms in light of our present rules. After all the main premise of the rules “to keep clients’ monies safe” is still the primary object of the Account Rules.

The course is designed to be both practical and with opportunities to discuss and ask questions so that delegates will leave with a good understanding of the proposed but not yet agreed rules.
