This detailed examination of the diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) will discuss the development of the diagnostic category and some of the controversies that it poses. These will be illustrated by real case examples where possible. The second part of the seminar will discuss biological, psychological and social treatments and perspectives on the condition with information about Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) illustrated by case material. Outcome data will be discussed.

Delegates are encouraged to submit questions in advance if possible and a Q&A type conclusion will end the seminar.

Dr Jenkins is approved under Section 12 of The Mental Health Act 1983 as having special expertise in diagnosis of mental illness since 1987. He was also an elected member of the Welsh Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Executive Committee and the College’s Deputy
