Summary of event:
BCS Birmingham Branch are pleased to invite everyone with an interest in IT and Data Protection to an evening of GDPR debate. We would particularly welcome any BCS Branch or Specialist Group members or members from other professional bodies, particularly PINWM and students from our local universities and colleges.
The GDPR is a new regulation due to become enforceable in law from 25th May 2018. If you haven’t heard of it yet you aren’t alone but it is a regulation that will affect all companies and organisations, large and small, public and private sector, operating across the EU as well as many such organisations across the world that have interests within the EU. If you’ve already started your journey of compliance you’ll have already realised that this is not just an IT or data problem. The potential fines have raised it to boardroom level attention.
This session is an opportunity to take the discussion to the next level and to help you to visualise the problems that you will need to solve as your compliance journey continues. Data Protection by Design and by Default, Article 25 of the GDPR, falls nicely within the scope of the BCS’s Making IT good for Society and putting people back in control of their data. If we needed it GDPR has not only given us the mandate to carry this out, it’s told us that we have too!

About the speaker:
David is an IT professional with over 30 years’ experience and is one of the Branch’s Committee Members. He has led systems development as an enterprise architect, consulting on many large-scale business and technical solutions, including enterprise-level CRM and ERP solutions for customer, supplier and employee data-intensive systems. David has been specialising in GDPR since 2016 and is now working as a regulatory business analyst leading on the systems changes for a Banking GDPR Change Programme.
